The International Chemistry Olympiad is one of the most influential youth science competitions in the world. This summer, the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad (hereinafter referred to as IChO2022) will be held in Tianjin on July 10. IChO2022 is co-organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, and Tianjin Municipal People's Government, and jointly hosted by Nankai University, the Chinese Chemical Society, the China Association for Science and Technology Youth Science and Technology Center and the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology. On June 10, the competition organizing committee held a press conference in Tianjin Science and Technology Museum to introduce the progress of relevant preparations, officially released the emblem, slogan, mascot, competition schedule and highlight activities, and answered reporters' questions.

Xin Bing said that the International Chemistry Olympiad is the world's largest and most influential chemistry competition for middle school students. At the press conference, the emblem, slogan and mascot of the event were released. The theme is to promote science and technology for the good, encourage innovation and creation, promote fusion, and transmit the Chinese voice. The main body of the emblem is the seal, the slogan is Change Creation Fusion, and the mascot is a golden monkey chemical experimenter named KEM.

Affected by the continued global spread of COVID-19, IChO2022 will be held online from July 10 to 18. So far, we have received confirmation letters from 82 countries and regions.

The theoretical test of this competition will be arranged from 14:00 to 24:00 on July 13, Beijing time. Each team will arrange the 5-hour test according to their time zone. Online and offline invigilation will be implemented to ensure fairness and impartiality. In order to do a good job in the proposition work, Nankai University and the Chinese Chemical Society convened domestic experts in various fields of chemistry to form the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad Scientific Committee as early as 2021. The Scientific Committee is divided into five groups, including inorganic, organic, physicochemical structure, analysis and experiment to carry out proposition work, including preparatory questions and formal questions. The questions in the competition should not only pay attention to the comprehensiveness of knowledge points, but also be moderately difficult, while highlighting the scientific nature, frontiers and logic. It should not only be integrated into the culture of the host country, but also reflect the important contribution of the host country to world chemical development. Meanwhile, it should also take into account the differences in chemical research and education. According to the requirements of the competition, the Scientific Committee has completed the preparatory questions in early 2022 and published them on the official website of the competition.

It is reported that the International Chemistry Olympiad has received much attention. It is not only a competitive platform for outstanding students from participating countries and regions to compete for chemical knowledge and experimental ability, but also a platform to display the achievements of Chemical Education in various countries and regions, and an exchange platform for mutual cultural communication and friendship. During the 51st International Chemistry Olympiad held in Paris, France in 2019, Nankai University won the right to host the 54th International Chemistry Olympiad in 2022. This is the second time that this grand gathering of young chemical enthusiasts has returned to the Chinese Mainland after 27 years since Beijing hosted the International Chemistry Olympiad in 1995.
